TALL BOOTS:

Proper riding breeches and socks should be worn when measuring for tall boots in order to achieve an accurate measurement. There are many variables to consider when properly fitting a tall riding boot such as height and calf width. Most stock riding boots run calf sizes slim, regular, wide, and extra wide. Tall Boot height is determined by lower leg length and the position of the tendons at the back of the knee. Your new tall boots will press on these tendons, but as the boots are broken in they will drop down and wrinkle at the ankles releasing the pressure on the tendons.
To measure for proper Tall Boot height, stand with knees slightly bent and measure up the BACK of the leg from the floor to the bend in the knee. Add 1" for the drop. To measure for the calf width, while seated place the tape SLIGHTLY snug around the widest part of the calf. To insure proper measurement, take it at 2 or 3 places on the leg. See the diagram to the left.
Equine Essentials Tack Shop carries boots by Devon-Aire, Ovation & Tredstone.
